$600M for S.J.‘s housing market
Distressed homeowners in San Joaquin County - at one point the nation's No. 1 foreclosure market - are in line to receive nearly $600 million in benefits from a multistate settlement with the nation's biggest banks.
Also praising the settlement, but more cautiously, was Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton.
"While this is welcome news, we still need to press for more," he said. "Not enough homeowners will be served by this settlement."

Rep. Jerry McNerney happy with foreclosure settlement, but says more needs to be done
Rep. Jerry McNerney said he was glad to learn that five banks have agreed to a settlement in the foreclosure crisis, especially considering that San Joaquin County has been hard hit by home foreclosures.
“I am hopeful that people in our region will be helped by this settlement, but we must be vigilant in monitoring how effectively this settlement is carried out and make sure the banks live up to their commitments,” McNerney, D-Pleasanton, said in a news release.

Central Valley’s major ship channel to be improved
A total of $5.3 million has been allocated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve the shipping channel from Stockton to San Francisco Bay, says Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton.
The largest portion -- $4,491,720 -- was awarded for operations and maintenance dredging at the Port of Stockton.
Another $800,000 was awarded for the San Francisco Bay to Stockton “marine highway” project.
“Construction and infrastructure jobs are vital to our regional economic health just as our infrastructure is vital to commerce, and this project will help put our community back to work,” says Mr. McNerney.
