McNerney for Congress announces Stockton Record endorsement
Dublin, Calif. – On October 12, the Stockton Record newspaper endorsed Jerry McNerney's reelection to Congress. The newspaper, known for its conservative editorial page and a long history of endorsing Republican candidates, endorsed Richard Pombo in the 2006 campaign. It is the hometown newspaper of McNerney's opponent, Dean Andal.
The Record called Jerry's energy plans "reasonable" and "measured," and also had this to say about Jerry:
McNerney clearly is the more moderate of the two candidates. He has demonstrated a willingness to work both sides of the aisle, recognizing that cooperation among forceful moderates from both parties is the only way anything is going to change. He has been highly visible in the district. And he is fearless about meeting with groups who disagree with him, listening to them and explaining why he takes the positions he takes.
It only makes sense to return McNerney to office. His freshman term is nearly over, and his effectiveness as a moderate voice and as an advocate of the district should only increase.
The full endorsement is available here: http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081012/A_OPINION01/810120301/-1/A_OPINION.
The endorsement from the Stockton Record is the latest in a string of endorsements, including over 100 veterans from the 11th district, as well as the Morgan Hill Times and Jerry's hometown newspaper, the Pleasanton Weekly.
